State medicine is losing the confidence of the Ukrainians. The once-familiar model of medical services is being replaced by private clinics. Private, highly specialized medical institutions - ophthalmological, reproductive and cardiological centres - are developing successfully. Private medicine can be one of the most sought-after areas.
New medical developments, the cultivation of organs and individual body parts are relevant for the warring Ukraine. Such operations were made possible by stem cell cultivation technology. This technology has been developed since 2012 in a private clinic in Kiev. The first experiments in cell cultivation in Ukraine started back in 2000 in Donetsk, at the Institute of Emergency and Reconstructive Surgery. The segment of biopharmaceuticals is actively developing now.
The main reason is medical reform. It has given new impetus to the development of a segment of private multidisciplinary clinics. It is now possible to conclude a contract with a general practitioner in both private and public institutions. Although government revenues are small, private clinics will provide a good flow of patients, who are likely to receive additional screening and treatment.
E-health and Digitalization are the main areas of investment in global medicine. They are not yet disclosed in Ukraine. BBC Research predicts that the telemedicine market will grow to $55.1 billion by 2021, compared to $23.8 billion in 2016. Last year, the FDA approved 36 health-related applications and devices.
Alternative asset classes attracted 8.4% more investment last year - data from Cushman & Wakefield’s Global Investment Atlas 2019 study. This includes health infrastructure, which is considered one of the most promising niches in many world markets.
There are a number of niches available, including: highly specialized tertiary centres, mono-services with high value added service component; compact outpatient surgical centres; geriatric nursing homes; Mental health centres; health clusters and multidisciplinary health networks.
